WHO WE ARE

As the Sharjah Archaeology Authority, our aim is to provide protection for all archaeological sites within the territory of the Emirate of Sharjah and to eliminate illegal trafficking and smuggling of archaeological artefacts.

Furthermore we are in charge of surveying and excavating Sharjah’s many archaeological sites while also supervising the work undertaken by the numerous foreign archaeological teams working on sites in Sharjah.

Find out more about the results of our excavations throughout the years by exploring our archaeological sites, objects and publications all featured in this website.

Mleiha Archaeological Centre

His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah has inaugurated the Mleiha Archaeological Centre. It is the first phase of the project which displays ancient relics found at Mleiha and presents archaeological sites around the ancient city. The centre takes visitors on a tour through Mleiha's history over the millenniums; it will be constantly updated as new findings are uncovered through ongoing excavation work and placed on display. During the inauguration of Mleiha Archaeology and Eco-tourism Project, His Highness visited a number of prominent archaeological sites such as the Umm An-Nar Tomb, the Faya Cave, the Pre-Islamic Mleiha Fort, and Palace. These significant sites date back to early man up to the Pre-Islamic period and give an insight into how our ancestors live.
